IWMI STUDY GUIDE: VALUES OF AN INTERCESSOR

Theme Scripture: O Jerusalem, I have set intercessors[a] on your walls who shall cry to God all day and all night for the fulfillment of his promises. Take no rest, all you who pray, and give God no rest until he establishes Jerusalem and makes her respected and admired throughout the earth. ISA 62 V.6-7 (TLB)

To begin, let us understand that values are standards of behaviour guiding a person or a group of people. As intercessors, we also abide and uphold certain values that makes us effective in our assignment.

Who then is an intercessor? An intercessor is someone who intervenes on behalf of others before God. Isaiah 59 v16 tells us that intercessors are men (humans), not spirits or Angels and God is always searching for such a people. In addition, the amplified classic version of this bible verse (Isaiah 59 v16) further explains that an intercessor is one that intervenes on behalf of truth and one that righteousness. Hallelujah!

As intercessors serving in IWMI, our mandate is clear and precise in Isaiah 62 v 6. God has set us as intercessors over the walls of Jerusalem (i.e. the Church of Christ) to pray day and night for the fulfillment of all that he has promised (The Script). This is why in IWMI, we pray day & night for the fulfillment of all that God has promised to be established on earth. Hence, for us to function effectively as intercessors in this assignment, we ought to understand the values and codes of an intercessor.

AS INTERCESSORS WE PRAY DAILY ON OUR KNEES

In our opening scripture (Isaiah 62 v 6 NJKV) says “I have set intercessors on your walls who shall cry to God all day and all night’ and in IWMI, we carry out this assignment daily as we make intercessory prayers day & night on our knees.

Why must we make prayers on our knees? Praying on our knees is a priestly position of authority! When we kneel, we present the church in the place of prayer in reverence to God. Glory to God! Apostle Paul demonstrated this in Ephesians 3 v 14 “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ”. Likewise, as intercessors we bow our knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ in the place of prayer as we make daily intercessions.

AS INTERCESSORS WE DO NOT KEEP SILENT!

Going back to our opening scripture (Isaiah 62 v 6), intercessors have been charged “not to keep silent!”. Hallelujah! We do not keep silent in IWMI we who make mention of the lord that his will be established on earth. Therefore, it is an error to be silent in the place of prayer as an intercessor in IWMI.

AS INTERCESSORS WE ARE FOCUSED

Proverbs 4 v 25 (TPT) admonishE us to set our gaze on the path before us with fixed purpose ignoring distractions. As intercessors in the place of prayer, we shut out distractions when we close our eyes. This keeps us fixed with full attention when we pray. Hallelujah! Sometimes our environment may pose as distractions, even our minds but when we shut our physical eyes, we shut out all distractions and we direct our heart, fixed on the lord in prayers.

In conclusion, as intercessors in IWMI we must uphold all these values when we come together to prayer. These values and codes of conduct helps us to become effective intercessors fulfilling our assignment.
